Gratitude was a studio project where, as a class, we defined a brand language and mission statement for an imaginary kitchenware company. Everyone in the class took those requirements and created two products for the company.
I knew I wanted to design some kind of coffee device, but I wasn't set on one kind. I started by doing form exploration for multiple devices.
Finally I landed on the moka pot as the focus for one of my products.
Since one of the goals of our company was to play on grassroots America and nostalgia, I wanted to invoke the steam whistle as part of my design. This was to relate to the break whistle of factories or the rail system in the US.
The pull handle shape of the steam whistle became the basis for the spout of my kettle.
